Free up Space in Gmail via IMAP – The Strategy

Now the more interesting part. Let’s see how we can free up some important disk space in our Gmail inbox using a simple strategy:

Step 1: Track down bulky email messages in your Gmail inbox that contain large file attachments.

Step 2: Save these attachments to the local hard drive.

Step 3. After the attachments are saved locally, remove them from the online mailbox without deleting the corresponding email message(s).

SiliconRepublic.com: Gmail outage blamed on server miscalculation – CIO

For many people who depend on Gmail it must have seemed like the earth stood still … for two hours anyway as the service experience a very rare outage.

Yesterday between 12:30 p.m. PDT to about 2:30 p.m. PDT (that’s 8.30pm GMT to 10.30pm GMT here) Gmail experienced an outage and millions of people who depend on the service for running their business, staying in touch with loved ones or backing up data could not access the service.

It is understood that the problem occurred when Google took a number of Gmail servers offline for maintenance.

HP selects Galway as global centre for cloud computing

HEWLETT-PACKARD (HP) has designated its Galway software development centre as a global centre of competency for cloud computing.

The first fruits of the new designation is a product recall service for the food industry, which is being launched in Canada.

Announced yesterday, the service will run on HP’s cloud computing platform for manufacturing and is being offered through a partnership with GS1, a non-profit organisation that attempts to make supply chains more efficient.

Cloud computing, which involves accessing applications over the web rather than installing them on a customers’ own premises, is gaining popularity rapidly.
